About The Residency

The Frick Pittsburgh is excited to partner with Pittsburgh-based artist and educator Khadijat Yussuff to further engage visitors to the museum’s current special exhibition, Treasured Ornament: 10 Centuries of Islamic Art. Yussuff is the Frick’s inaugural Artist Educator-in-Residence.

As Artist Educator-in-Residence, Yussuff will explore Treasured Ornament in conjunction with their own study into West African, specifically Yorùbá, Ajami script and the relationship between the Arab world and Africa. They will create educational materials for community education about the exhibition and about their own discoveries during their residency, develop meaningful arts-based programs related to the content featured in Treasured Ornament, and instruct student groups during exhibition field trips.

Throughout the run of Treasured Ornament, Yussuff will hold four open studio sessions at the Frick, where visitors are invited to observe their learning and creative practice as well as ask questions about the exhibition and their work. Open studio dates will be announced soon.
